Apple will unveil the next iPad generation on October 22nd

The date has been revealed by AllThingsD and the keynote should be invitation-only.

Of course, the iPad Mini 2013 and iPad 2013 are to be expected.
Both should at least sports the TouchID feature and have smaller bezels (especially for the 9.7" iPad). There are still doubts towards the Mini and a possible Retina Display. There are some conflicted reports about that but we are sure waiting for a answer from Apple to the Nexus 7 (2013).

Lenovo Vibe X2 hands on

The Lenovo Vibe X2 is the "worlds first layered smartphone." Besides being made of several distinct layers, you can also "layer on" various accessories to the phones body thats a slender 7.3mm thick.

Visually, the body of the Vibe X2 is divided into four colorful layers too, which makes for a unique and attractive design. As for the colors you get a choice of White, Dark grey, Gold and Red, the accessories will have matching color options.

The different layers create an unusual feel in the hand but we have to say some of the edges were a little too sharp for us. The rear felt like quality matte plastic thats virtually fingerprint-resistant.

One of the Vibe Xtension layers is an extra battery case that adds 5.1mm to the thickness alongside 75% more juice. Its good to see an first-party solution instead of having to rely on aftermarket battery packs.

The second Xtension is more fun, a big loudspeaker by JBL that has a built-in kickstand and an analog volume knob.

The Lenovo Vibe X2 has a 13MP main camera with an LED flash and a selfie centric 5MP front-facing camera. You can snap a selfie by blinking (the phone waits for you to open your eyes, obviously) or you can wave your hand in front of the phone.

The phone boasts a 5" IPS LCD of 1080p resolution. It looked great at an angle and was surprisingly bright if a little reflective.

The package is powered by a MediaTek MT6595m True8Core chipset, which combines four Corex-A17 cores with four Cortex-A7 cores. You get 32GB of built-in storage but no expansion slot. Theres also a PowerVR G600 GPU and 2GB of RAM.

The Vibe X2 runs Android 4.4 KitKat, skinned with Vibe UI 2.0. It changed a whole lot about the Android interface (so not suitable for purists) but the interface was still snappy, despite all the custom stuff running.

Lenovo has gone to great lengths with the customization

The chipset provides LTE Cat. 4 connectivity for up to 150Mbps downlink speeds and, in the Asia-Pacific market, dual-SIM. The Vibe X2 will be a single-SIM device elsewhere.

The Lenovo Vibe X2 will be available at $400 SIM-free in October starting in China and expanding to Eastern Europe, the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.

Flipkart Comments on Price Changes and Other Issues Customers Faced During the Big Billion Day Sale

Flipkart founders on Tuesday sent an email to its customers apologising for the problems they experienced during the Big Billion Day Sale the day before.

"Yesterday was a big day for us. And we really wanted it to be a great day for you. But at the end of the day, we know that your experience was less than pleasant. We did not live up to the promises we made and for that we are really and truly sorry," says the email from Flipkart co-founders Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal that was sent to all customers.

Unlike the media statement the company released on Monday that boasted of $100 million (Rs. 615 crores approximately) sales in 10 hours but was strangely silent on theproblems customers experienced during the day, the Flipkart email addresses almost all issues that people complained about on Monday.

This included the price change issue, wherein many alleged that Flipkart had increased prices of products leading up to the sale, which misled customers to believe the discount on offer was higher than usual.

"As we were preparing various deals and promotional pricing in the lead up to the sale, the pricing of several products got changed to their non-discounted rates for a few hours," the email from Flipkart says. " We realise that this breaks the trust our customers have put in us. We are truly sorry for this and will ensure that this never happens again."

On the inability of people to access the website at times, Flipkart said it had deployed nearly 5000 servers, and had prepared for 20 times the normal traffic growth, but "the volume of traffic at different times of the day was much higher than this."

The email also addresses other problems Flipkart customers faced like cancellations and out of stock issues.

Dear Customer,
Yesterday was a big day for us. And we really wanted it to be a great day for you. But at the end of the day, we know that your experience was less than pleasant. We did not live up to the promises we made and for that we are really and truly sorry.
It took enormous effort from everyone at Flipkart, many months of preparation and pushing our capabilities and systems to the limit to be able to create this day. We were looking at fulfilling the dreams of millions of Indian consumers through deals and offers we had painstakingly put together for months.
And though we saw unprecedented interest in our products and traffic like never before, we also realized that we were not adequately prepared for the sheer scale of the event. We didnt source enough products and deals in advance to cater to your requirements. To add to this, the load on our server led to intermittent outages, further impacting your shopping experience on our site.
An unprecedented 1.5 million people shopped at Flipkart yesterday. While we stand humbled by the sheer faith that such a large number of customers have shown in us, we are unhappy that we were unable to live up to the expectations of millions more who wanted to buy from us yesterday.
And this is not acceptable to us.
Delighting you, and every single one of our customers, is absolutely the top most priority for Flipkart and we have worked very hard over the last seven years to earn your trust. Yesterday, we failed that trust. We have learnt some valuable lessons from this and have started working doubly hard to address all the issues that cropped up during this sale.
Price Changes As we were preparing various deals and promotional pricing in the lead up to the sale, the pricing of several products got changed to their non-discounted rates for a few hours. Out-of-stock Issues We ran out of the stock for many products within a few minutes (and in some cases, seconds) of the sale going live. For example, most of our special deals were sold out as soon as they went live. We had ensured availability, anywhere from hundreds to a few lakh units for various products, but it was nowhere near the actual demand. We promise to plan much better for future promotions and ensure that we minimise the out-of-stock issues.
Cancellations We had large number of people buying specific products simultaneously. This led to some instances of an order getting over-booked for a product that was sold out just a few seconds ago. We are working round-the-clock to ensure availability of additional units for these products and will do our level best to ensure that we minimise any cancellations.
Website Issues We realise that the shopping experience for many of you was frustrating due to errors and unavailability of the website at times. We had deployed nearly 5000 servers and had prepared for 20 times the traffic growth - but the volume of traffic at different times of the day was much higher than this. We are continuing to significantly scale up all our back end systems so that we do a much, much better job next time.
Everything that we have achieved at Flipkart is purely on the basis of our customers trust and faith. This is why we come to work each day and continue to remain extremely passionate about building the best possible customer experience for Indian consumers. We failed to live up to this promise yesterday and would like to apologise once again to every single customer for our failure.

OneDrive on Windows Phone will allow offline file access in the future

Microsoft is listening to suggestions over at the User Voice forums on how to improve its products and one commenter mentioned how offline access to files in OneDrive will be great to have. In comes Casey Penk (a program manager at Microsoft) who reveals that the team is already on it.

Keeping offline copies from OneDrive is possible on a desktop Windows 8.1, but not on the phone. Competing services like Dropbox and Google Drive have file pinning as well (on Android and iOS at least).

Anyway, Penk says there’s no timeline for the launch of the offline feature, but if you were hoping for it too at least now you know it’s in the pipeline.

Nokia HERE for Galaxy devices also operates on other Androids – Techzine

Previous month were Nokia and Samsung announced that Galaxy smartphones get exclusive access to the LORD Maps app. However, an early version of the software also runs fine on Android devices from other manufacturers.

HERE Maps from Nokia exclusively for Samsung Galaxy smartphones released, but turns without turning on devices problems from other manufacturers. The only requirement seems to be that the device has at least Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

A major advantage of HERE Maps is the ability to navigate offline. Other services usually require an active data connection to look up a location. With HERE Maps a map must be stored offline, this is to search next. Maps can be downloaded for each country, such as the map of the United States weighs 4.7GB, but can also be downloaded.

HERE Maps for Android will be available exclusively for Samsung’s smartphones and will be distributed through the Galaxy Apps store.

Xiaomi might be making headlines in India for its smartphones, the Mi 3 and Redmi 1S, but the Chinese manufacturer products arent just limited to handsets.
After introducing the Mi Flip Cover and Mi Screen Protector Guard for the Mi 3 smartphone, as well as two new power banks, the company has now launched the new Mi In-the-ear Headset (Piston Design) on Flipkart, priced at Rs. 999.

The Mi In-the-ear Headset (Piston Design) reportedly went on sale earlier this week; though the device went out of stock within few hours according to FoneArena.

The Mi In-the-ear Headset (Piston Design) (ZBW4122IN) is a wired device and comes with a built-in microphone. The company claims that cable is made of braided Kevlar cord and also comes with a beryllium alloy diaphragm. The headset supports double damping system and the listing claims that it can even filter unwanted sounds.

Last month, Xiaomi released the Mi Flip Cover and Mi Screen Protector Guard accessories for the Mi 3 smartphone priced at Rs. 559 and Rs. 179 respectively.

The company had also released new Mi 5200mAh Power Bank, priced at Rs. 799 and Mi 10400mAh Power Bank, priced at Rs. 999. Both the power banks feature textured anodised aluminium casings that are water and corrosion resistant, and can sustain a weight pressure of up to 50kgs. The two power banks also feature indicator lights, and both a Micro-USB and USB port.

Xiaomis new Redmi 1S went on sale earlier on Tuesday and it shared several characteristics from Mi 3 sales. The first Xiaomi Redmi 1S (Review | Pictures) flash sale on saw 40,000 units of the budget smartphone going out of stock on Flipkart in 4.2 seconds.

Samsung Power Sharing Cable allows you to charge devices on the go

Samsung is launching a new microUSB to microUSB power cable that lets you charge your gadgets by drawing power from your Galaxy smartphone or tablet. The cable has an arrow indication to show the power flow and officially works with the Galaxy S 5, Galaxy Tab S 10.5, Galaxy Tab S 8.4, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Avant and Galaxy Note 4.

As Samsung suggests, the cable is perfect for charging up the Galaxy Gear Live from the Galaxy Note 4′s 3,220mAh battery. That conveniently fixes the problem with smartwatch batteries, which we wished didn’t even exist in the first place, but let’s not digress.

The company also has an app to accompany the cable. It allows you to chose how much power you’d like to transfer from your device to the one you’re charging. You can also monitor the charging progress, but, sadly, the app is available only for the Samsung supported devices.

Currently, the cable retails for $19.99 from Samsung’s US store, but we’re sure the company will also launch it in more markets in due time.

Apple to allegedly have an event on October 16 for iPad Mac and Yosemite

It hasn’t been long since Apple’s September event for the new iPhones but Apple will be holding another event this month, according to Re/code. This event will concentrate on Apple’s other major products, namely the iPad, the Mac, and the OS X operating system.

According to 9to5Mac, the event will be held at Town Hall in Apple’s Campus. This is a much smaller venue and will allow fewer people to attend.

Apple is expected to announce the new iPad Air, which will be thinner, faster, and will have the Touch ID sensor. It is also said to be available in gold. There is also expected to be an update to the iMac and the Mac mini, which haven’t been updated in a while. OS X Yosemite will also be made available for download.

Exploring the Split Screen Multitasking Feature in iOS 8 on Apples iPad

In the first edition of iOS 8 beta, that was announced a couple of days ago, allows split screen multitasking on iPad, Earlier reported by 9to5mac, now he has hacked the iOS 8 code to work on the functionality, but only partially.

Recently, Troughton-Smith has released a video demonstrating how the iPad split screen functions on iOS 8 showing the simulation working on the iPads split screen.

As you can see in the video, there are two panels in the screen, one screen has Safari running on it, and other panel is blank. The blank panel is likely for other app to be loaded, but the simulator is still functioning to enable two panels working side-by-side on a single screen.

Another feature that you can see in the video is two finger swipe functionality to control the visible size of either apps in the split screen mode and that can also be adjusted according to the screen.

This split-screen feature for iPad was rumored one month ago, and it was also much expected to be an attraction at WWDC, a few days ago. The feature is still in progress, and thus it was not previewed by Apple in the developers conference.
